PSEKA lodges complaint with Secretary of State

Hon. Marco Rubio
Secretary of State
US Department of State
2201 C Street NW
Washington, DC 20520

Dear Secretary Rubio,

As proud American citizens of Greek Cypriot descent and legal owners of homes and properties in the northern occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus, we are deeply troubled by the ongoing unlawful detention of five Greek Cypriot citizens by the Turkish occupation regime.

The presence of 40,000 Turkish troops preventing more than 150,000 people from returning to their ancestral homes and properties in violation of numerous UN Resolutions, European Union Court decisions, and in violation of International Law, cannot continue to be tolerated.

Mr. Rubio, you more than anyone else, the son of Cuban immigrants, can clearly understand the pain and sorrow that we have been experiencing for 51 years!  More than 2,000 American citizens own homes and properties in the 36% occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus, a member of the European Union.  This premediated action by Turkey’s puppet government in the occupied area aims to intimate the Greek Cypriots exercising their lawful rights to access their ancestral homes and properties or to submit to the illegal, immovable property commission of the Turkish army.

We strongly condemn the ongoing illegal provocative and inhumane treatment of the five Greek Cypriot citizens by the Turkish occupation regime.  Abduction, hostage taking and sham process are actions of terrorist organizations and an illegal regime operating under the direction of Turkey which bears full responsibility and accountability.

As American citizens directly affected by the 51-year illegal occupation of 36% of the Republic of Cyprus, we call upon our Government to take immediate and decisive action.
  • Demand immediate and unconditional release of the five detained Greek Cypriots.
  • Hold Turkey accountable for its ongoing violations and use all means possible to end the illegal occupation of 36% of the Republic of Cyprus, a member of the European Union and a strong partner of the United States.
Very truly yours,
Philip Christopher
President
